Community Blood Bank Announces Top 10 Businesses
The average adult has about 10 pints of blood in his body. Roughly 1 pint is given during a donation.
Sioux Falls, SD- Every three seconds a patient needs blood in the United States. As the Sioux Falls community continues to grow, so does the need for blood products. Many businesses partner with Community Blood Bank throughout the year to sure up the local blood supply in order to fulfill one of the essentials for medical treatment. The only way blood can be provided to local patients is through the generosity of volunteers donating to Community Blood Bank. Having the bloodmobile come directly to a business allows for a convenient way for staff to provide a valuable community service.
“We are grateful for all of the business and organizations that have hosted blood drives in 2017. When a person donates blood they are helping to save the lives of trauma, surgery, cancer and burn patients.” states Ken Versteeg, Executive Director of Community Blood Bank. “We feel very fortunate to have such dedicated partners.
Community Blood Bank is a non-profit cooperative effort between Sanford Medical Center and Avera McKennan Hospitals formed to ensure a safe and adequate blood supply for the communities it serves. Community Blood Bank services 34 local hospitals within a 200 mile radius of Sioux Falls. Community Blood Bank requires a collection of 550 units of blood per week to meet the needs of hospital patients within southeastern South Dakota, northwestern Iowa, and southwestern Minnesota. Community Blood Bank is not affiliated with any other blood bank entity and is self sufficient thanks to the generosity of volunteer community blood donors.
