Royal C. Johnson Veterans Memorial Hospital
Clinical Video Appointments To Home (CTH)
Through Video to Home, you can interact with your VA care team by simply using the camera on your smart phone, computer, or tablet to get direct, real-time access.
Video visits are available for Veterans. You can see a health care provider from anywhere you can use your video device with privacy (home, work, car etc.). Video visits are available from your tablet, smart phone or home computer equipped with internet access and a web camera.
Through this tool, we’re able to:
- Improve health care access, especially for those who live in rural areas or have health conditions that make it difficult to travel.
- Reduce appointment wait times, allowing you to almost immediately connect to your VA care team.
- More easily include your caregivers or support systems in your visits.
What we may treat: Aches and pains, bladder infections, coughs or colds, diarrhea, pink eye, rashes, sinus infections, nutrition education, education about your medications, mental health counseling, social work, nurse follow up, hypertension with home blood pressure device, blood sugar questions with home glucose monitoring, and some other stable chronic conditions. If you are interested ask your provider if a video on demand to home appointment would work for you.
Exclusion criteria: These appointments are not appropriate for emergency condition. Some appointments requiring a physical assessment many not be appropriate (up to provider discretion) or when you need a physical examination by a provider. If you have these symptoms a video appointment is not appropriate: chest pain or pressure, shortness of breath, difficulty breathing, upper abdominal pain or pressure, coughing blood or vomiting blood, bleeding that won’t stop, unconsciousness, seizures, sudden or excessive pain, sudden vision loss or eye pain, sudden new onset severe headache, confusion, or suicidal thoughts.
Through Video to Home, you can interact with your VA care team by simply using the camera on your smart phone, computer, or tablet to get direct, real-time access to VA care in a way that works best for you. The app provides you with access and convenience when:
- You live far away from your VA facility.
- You’re dealing with health conditions that make it difficult to travel to the specialist you need.
- You have a few minor questions for your doctor that can be answered over live video.
- You lack time to attend an in-person appointment.
- A hands-on physical exam is not required.
Best of all, there is no copay for Video to Home appointments!
