Program Description
The residency is designed to develop practitioners with a high level of skills required to manage patient care as an integral member of an interdisciplinary team. Residents will participate in established disease management clinics including: anticoagulation, diabetes, hypertension, dyslipidemia, erectile dysfunction, tobacco cessation, and thyroid disorders. Residents will have learning experiences in the following areas: ambulatory care, internal medicine, mental health, long-term care (Community Living Center), pharmacoeconomics, and management. The Sioux Falls VA Health Care System is a teaching institution that allows residents to participate in teaching and precepting on-site. A teaching certificate is offered through South Dakota State University College of Pharmacy.
Purpose Statement
PGY-1 residency program graduates will be prepared to practice in adult medicine settings as an acute or ambulatory care clinical pharmacist.
